Columbia Support Our Troops License Plates
If you are wondering why you have never heard of a British Columbia "Support Our Troops" license plate, it is because they do not exist - yet! |
This, however, should be no reason to think that ICBC is not going to release such a plate in the next few years for, if we know anything about vehicle administrators, they are a tight knit group who tend to follow each others lead. Case in point, the "Veteran" license plate mania that afflicted them between 2003 and 2005 and ended with every province and territory offering such a plate. |
Accordingly, we need only look to our Prairie neighbours to see the trend towards the introduction of these plates that has been occuring since 2014. |
Alberta - 2014 |
On November 9, 2013, Alberta announced it was introducing a "Support Our Troops" plate that would be available to motorists in 2014. At the time of their initial announcement, the cost of the plates was pegged at $150 with revenue from each plate sold going towards help members of the Canadian Forces and their families (how was not clear). |
When the release of the plates was re-announced on July 22, 2014, much had changed including an announcement that design used in 2013 was merely a "placeholder". The new design by Silvia Pecota entitled “Fallen Comrades of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry”. The cost of the plate was also revised and was now a one-time $75 with $55 of each sale going to the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services. |

United States |
Military plates are a ubiquitous part of the specialty license plate landscape in the United States and run the gamit in terms of designs from a standardised approach pushed by the Support Our Troops; America's Military Charity organisation to yellow ribbon themed plates to gaudy nationalistic plates (hello New Mexico!). The following is a selection of some of these plates: |
