Due to the distincive design of the Gold Panner image, Yukon licence plates have always been very popular with collectors and the Territory regularily received hundreds of quests for samples each year. Somewhat problematic for the Territory, however, was that these requests usually began to be received at the beginning of each calendar year, but with the licencing year commencing at the beginning of April, there was a minor delay before sample plates became available for purchase. As a result, it is not uncommon to find correspondance between the Registrar of Motor Vehicles and Oakalla regarding the urgent need for sample plates for distribution in Janurary of each year. 700 in 1961 Order 725 souvenir / sample plates for 1962, with 100 to Dawson, 500 to Whitehorse, 25 to Mayo, 50 to Haines Junction and 50 to Watson Lake. Ordered 100 1963 sample in November of 1962 to meet demand. In, 1964 the Registrar of Motor Vehicles requested of Oakalla that there plate run commence with the souvenir plates and that these be shipped as soon as they were completed (one box of plates would be sent by air, but the full order did not show up as expected). Throughout the 1960s, sample plates could be purchased from the Registrar of Motor Vehicles for the price of $1.00. By early October of 1970, the Territory's supply of souvenir licence plates had already been exhausted and requests were being made of Oakalla to manufacture the souvenir plate component of their 1971 order first in order that demand could be met. 1971 to 19771978 to 19791980 to 1981
