Yukon Dealer License Plates

The first reference to Dealers can be found in the original Motor Vehicle Ordinance No. 14 passed by the Territory Council in 1914. This legislation states that "the provisions of the Ordinance, as to the registration and display of permanent numbers, shall not apply to bona-fide dealers in, or agents for, automobiles, in respect to new cars in stock, or used as demonstrators by such dealers or agents: Provided, however, that every such dealer or agent shall pay to the Territorial Secretary the registration fee as provided for in Section 4 of this ordinance, and secure a number plate, which number shall be temporarily attached to the dash board or wind shield of such new car or demonstrator when the same is in operation on any street or highway in such manner that said number plate can easily be seen."

When a new Motor Vehicle Ordinance was enacted by the Territory Council in 1947, the same Section from the 1914 Ordinance was simply carried forward virtually unchanged, yet appears to have disappeared from the 1952 version of another newly enacted Motor Vehicle Ordinance.
